China News Network Zhanjiang, September 6 (Reporter Guo Jun) The reporter learned from BASF Zhanjiang Integrated Base on the 6th that the first unit of the base was officially put into production on the same day. Since then, BASF will increase the output of modified engineering plastics for the Chinese market by 60000 tons every year, and increase the total production capacity of this product in the Asia Pacific region to 420000 tons from 2023, to meet the growing demand of customers, especially in the automotive and electronic products and other industries.
Dr. Bo Mule, Chairman of the Executive Board of BASF Europe, said: "This is an exciting starting point. The formal operation of the first unit has made a good start for the subsequent construction of the base. After completion, Zhanjiang Integrated Base will become the third largest integrated production base of BASF in the world."
The first unit uses 100% renewable energy power. BASF aims to provide 100% renewable energy power for the entire Zhanjiang Integrated Base by 2025.
Dr. Kelly, member of the Executive Board of BASF Europe and in charge of the Asia Pacific region, said: "Zhanjiang Integrated Base will adopt cutting-edge digital technology and follow the highest safety standards of the Group, and is committed to introducing high-quality, low carbon footprint products for the market and achieving business growth in South China, which also reflects BASF's firm commitment to the Chinese market."
The first package of BASF Zhanjiang Integrated Base will be built by piling in 2020. In July 2022, BASF Europe made the final investment decision and announced to comprehensively promote the construction of Zhanjiang integrated base. This phase will focus on building the core of the integrated base, including a set of steam cracking units and several downstream units, and is planned to start at the end of 2025, so as to further support BASF's continuous business growth in China. In the later stage of the project, more downstream devices will be expanded to realize the production of diversified products. It is planned to put into operation from 2028.
BASF Zhanjiang Integrated Base Project was officially announced in July 2018, which is the largest investment project of BASF Group so far and is independently constructed and operated by BASF. By 2030, BASF will invest 10 billion euros to build the base. Another unit for producing thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) will be put into operation in 2023. (End)
