        Cyclohexanone is a saturated ketone with carbonyl carbon atoms contained in the six membered ring. Although it is cyclic, its properties are similar to those of open chain ketones. It can undergo oxidation, polymerization, substitution and other reactions in the presence of catalysts. It is an important organic synthesis intermediate.

        In the early days, domestic cyclohexanone was only the intermediate product of caprolactam, and the manufacturer's cyclohexanone production capacity matched that of the caprolactam plant, and only a small amount of commercial cyclohexanone was supplied to the market. In addition to being used to synthesize caprolactam and adipic acid in the chemical fiber field, it can also prepare a variety of chemical products such as resins, polycaprolactone, pharmaceutical intermediates, etc.

Applications in chemical synthesis:

1. Caprolactam and adipic acid
The biggest use of cyclohexanone is to produce caprolactam and adipic acid, which are important monomers for making nylon, nylon 66 and other synthetic resins. In the downstream distribution of cyclohexanone, chemical fiber industry uses more than 90% of the total output.

2. Synthetic organic resin
Cyclohexanone can be used to produce cyclohexanone formaldehyde resin, porphyrin resin, aromatic polyamine solid resin, etc. Compared with similar resins, cyclohexanone formaldehyde resin (i.e. ketone formaldehyde resin) has the advantages of high hardness, good weather resistance and oxygen resistance, low viscosity, high gloss, and compatibility with various paint materials. It is mainly used as paint resin, widely used in oily resin, alkyd resin, amino resin, acrylic resin, epoxy resin and other paints, and also used as dispersant and brightener for ink and ballpoint pen oil. Porphyrin resin has special anti-corrosion performance, which can be used as anti-corrosion coating due to its good resistance to acid corrosion and organic matter dissolution. Aromatic polyamine solid resin can be used as additive and chain growth agent of polyurethane rubber.

3. Dehydrogenation to o-phenylphenol
As an important organic fine chemical product, o-phenylphenol has a wide range of applications and broad prospects. It can be used to synthesize new phosphorus containing flame retardant materials, antiseptic fungicides, printing and dyeing auxiliaries, etc. With the further research of o-phenylphenol, its application field will be wider. The cyclohexanone condensation dehydrogenation process is an ideal production process for preparing o-phenylphenol, which has become a mainstream production process with high purity and wide application range.

4. Polycaprolactone
Cyclohexanone synthesis ε- Caprolactone, ε- Polycaprolactone was further synthesized by ring opening polymerization with catalyst. Polycaprolactone is a white opaque solid with certain rigidity. In addition, polycaprolactone has good biodegradability, drug permeability, and the effect of long-term stable drug release. Therefore, polycaprolactone is widely used in drug carriers, coating toughening, degradable plastics, polyurethane modification and other fields.

5. Pharmaceutical Intermediates
Cyclohexyl diacetic acid (CDA for short) is an important pharmaceutical intermediate, which is prepared from cyclohexanone, acetic acid, acetic anhydride and other raw materials. It can be used as an intermediate of gabapentin for the production of antiepileptic drugs.

6. Polyurethane additives
Cyclohexanone can be used to produce polyurethane auxiliary PC8, and the downstream is polyether foaming catalyst, polyurethane foaming catalyst, etc. The terminals are refrigerator hard foam, plate, composite polyether, external wall insulation, thermal insulation layer, etc.
